Everything I Wore In Japan
From planes, trains, and automobiles in Tokyo, Kyoto and beyond - here is everything, yes everything, I wore during my travels
There are some trips where I 100% pack for “mom life” and others where I’m bringing along pieces to purely play dress up. For example, cities like Paris that I have visited multiple times before and know that I won’t be doing a lot of touristy sightseeing things (read: less walking) where I can flex cuter looks and seemingly pack less of my ordinary everyday.
But every once in a while, I travel to a place that I know I am visiting for the first time where I’ll literally want to hit the ground running. This was the case for my first trip to Japan. Luckily, the friends I was traveling with all agreed that we would be packing comfortable “tourist” clothesm with a bigger focus on function over fashion. And boy am I glad I did. We did a LOT of walking. We each only changed once a day from daytime to night and was an itinerary that was packed full (that post coming next). What we wore had to be comfortable and super versatile for changing weather. Some days went from really cold and rainy to hot and muggy within hours. At night it would be cold walking around but hot inside dinners. Layers were essential.
We were there during peak cherry blossom season which hit on April 5th, 2024 (just for context).
So, I didn’t pack a single pair of heels, only two pair of sneakers and two black flats (a loafer and a ballet flat). I also only brought 3 jackets, my Barn Jacket (restocking soon!), Boxwood Jacket and Vince Leather Jacket (size L). I purchased 2 jackets while I was there but more on that below.
The name of the bag packing game for traveling to Japan is to have a really great crossbody that holds a lot. That’s why I was really happy I took along my Bottega. I also picked up canvas shopper totes (thank you Uniqlo) for extra souvenirs or stashing layers when I was hot, which came in handy.
Below you will find everything.
This feels like a good place to drop in the post I wrote about the Velvet Brylie pants vs the Nili Lotan Shon pants: read here
Best trip ever.
Until next time, JD x
