The Basic February Edit
What I'm consuming, shopping, thinking and doing
This wouldn’t be a “basic” Substack without a post on what I’m basically obsessing over. Are the below things truly “basic?” Not really. But there is a delicious irony in the name “Basic” I’m supposed to be the OG blogger who was once the “Damsel in Dior” yet here I am, clutching a chilled glass of white wine at 7:45pm on a Tuesday (judge me not) and hyper-fixating on kaftan dresses like it’s my job. Wait, it technically is my job.
This month, my top post was “What I Got Wrong in my Marriage.” I still get nervous pressing “publish” on more vulnerable pieces, especially knowing there are dark corners of the internet where sad people thrive on lies and misinformation. The truth is, no one knows our story but Grant and me. And I feel genuinely at peace and happy with where we are today. Sharing my lived experience is both my job and what I love most. And apparently you all liked it too! The post landed me as the #1 rising fashion Substack last week and I was truly humbled. Thank you all so much for the continued love and support!
In other news, the great chill has descended upon the United States and I’m not just talking about the weather. It’s an absolute disgrace what is happening in our nation right now and I truly hope that wherever this letter finds you, it finds you doing …. okay. Perhaps a little retail therapy and light hearted lifestyle suggestions can bring you a bit of distraction during this dark winter. Let’s get to it.
Here are a few things that I’m looking forward to in the month ahead…otherwise known as February, Valentine’s Day and the start to a new year.
1. Podcasts I Loved
The top podcast listen for me was a tie. I can’t tell you how many friends I forwarded GOOP’s Numerology report to. It’s a very simple breakdown to explain how this is year 1 of a 9 year cycle and it got me all sorts of fired up for what’s ahead. I also binged a few podcasts on my drive to Palm Springs with the kids and my second favorite was an older “Smartless” podcast with Mel Robbins. I’m a big fan of hers but missed the 5,4,3,2,1 memo and I’ve been applying it in my daily life since. What a game changer!
2. A Pair of Old-Ish Pants
There are a few things I put away after summer for the winter season and those things are my linens. A couple weeks ago the temps in Los Angeles were exceeding the 80s so I visited my summer linen archive drawer and was pleasantly met with my favorite Suzie Kondi pieces. I’ve been a fan of her work for many years. Her pieces truly do stand the test of time and I never get rid of them. Lately, these pants have been on rotation non-stop on the warmer days in LA and I’ve gotten a ton of questions about them in my DMs and Substack DMs. So, here you go!
