The Canvas Tote Bag Breakdown
Styles, monogramming, sizes and other canvas tote brands that aren't L.L. Bean (oh my!)
Because no two L.L. Bean tote bags were created equal. And because my girlfriends and I are always seemingly discussing what the best tote bags are.
Speaking of L.L. Bean: I was curious as to who or what brand created the first tote bag and was surprised, but not too surprised, that L.L. Bean was in fact the first brand to come up with the idea. Back in 1944, L.L.Bean came up with the idea of an ice bag. Back then, the ice bag was exactly that: a large, sturdy, durable canvas bag to carry ice from the car to the freezer.
It didn’t take people long to realize you could use said tote bag for more than just carrying ice. It’s a perfect blend of fashion, function and eco-friendliness. It also didn’t take other brands long to take note of this style which rose quickly in popularity. Two labels, LL Bean and Lands End, have been frontrunners in the game of durable, yet stylish canvas totes. However, there are many more that I’ve tested, tried and truly suggest and don’t suggest for various reasons.
